GM VIDIT GUJRATHI TO LEAD INDIAN CHESS TEAM FOR OLYMPIAD 2020

It is one of the most happy and very proud moment to hear that our very young rising talent has been selected to lead the Indian chess team in the upcoming Olympiad 2020.

His name is proudly engraved in the list of the famous and massive chess players. His dedication and his passion for chess from a very young age has made him so capable that he got selected to lead the Indian chess team that too in OLYMPIAD!

He is India's grandmaster no -2. He attained the title of Grandmaster in January 2013, aged 18 years and 3 months. He is the fourth Indian ever to have crossed the rating threshold of 2700. As of May 2020, his rating of 2726 makes him the 22nd highest rated chess player in the world, and the second highest rated chess player in India, Vishwanathan anand.

Our beloved grandmaster was on Sunday named as the captain of the Indian team that will take part in the Online Chess olympiad 2020, scheduled to begin on July 22.

This has been done in consultation with Vishy Anand and the selection committee by President of AICF P R Venkatarama Raja,” the AICF release stated.

The team also includes P. Harikrishna and national champion Aravindh Chithambaram, world rapid champion Koneru Humpy, D. Harika and young prodigy R. Praggnanandhaa among others.

The Indian squad: Men : Vishwanathan Anand, Vidit Santosh Gujarati (captain), P. Harikrishna and Arvindh Chithambaram (reserves).

Women: Koneru Humpy, Dronavalli Harika, Bhakti Kulkarni and R. Vaishali (reserves).

Junior boys: Nihal Sarin, R. Praggnanandha (reserve).
