COMPUTERS- CAN BE TRUSTWORTHY IN CHESS?

The actual question to discuss is “should we trust computers in chess”? Because it can prove out to be a boon or a curse answer to this complicated question can be “it depends”. There are many computer error cases as it is made by man so many errors can occur too.

It gets me into a nostalgic feel by reminding with one of the most bizarre cases

The iron curtain was finally lifted about 30 years ago in which many soviet chess players got a chance to represent themselves abroad. So GM G.serperwas showing his skills in one of those big Swiss opens in Eastern Europe. He shared his friend’s experience who had a great tournament and before the last round. The only thing he wanted was to achieve his final IM norm who was another foreign opponent even a loss wouldn’t prevent him from getting the coveted title. But he couldn’t get such opponent and GM G.serper felt very sorry that it was really illogical that he couldn’t get the title due to stupid technology.

It was of quite wonders that how he managed to make the computers drunk, but the next day he indeed was paired with his desired players and simultaneously gets his IM title. But GM had a bad tournament.

So the question arises....

Should we blindly trust chess engines?

Through analysis we can conclude, some very strong chess players do. But it reminds me of GM svilder's witticism after the Nc6-b4-C6 incident. When RADJABOV stated that there was also a move: - Bb7-c8 in his notes.

Svidler retorted: - “I would have quit chess. A mental institution anticipated me immediately.
